American Socialist: The Life and Times of Eugene V

Bernie Sanders inspired a generation - but who inspired him? Eugene V. Debs was a labor union leader when he was jailed during the pivotal 1894 Pullman Strike. During his incarceration at the McHenry County Jail, Debs began to explore socialism, eventually founding the Socialist Party of America and running for president five times, once from prison. See this thoughtful biography of the only presidential candidate in US history to be imprisoned for his campaign platform.

Presented at the Woodstock Theatre on Monday, November 5th at 1pm and 7pm. Shown as part of the Eugene V. Debs/George Pullman Festival coordinated by Woodstock Celebrates.
